How to Prevent Flooring Horrors This Halloween

Halloween is fast approaching but despite all the scary decorations and creepy costumes, the biggest horror story we can think of is damaged flooring.

It’s easy to do and accidents do happen, but time, money and hard-work has gone into your flooring and the last thing you want is for it to become ruined in any way. That’s why this Halloween, we’re making sure the trick or treaters are the only horrors around, with some of our best damage prevention tips.

Devilish Dirt

Halloween might be the primary focus for October, but there’s no forgetting that it is officially autumn and soon will be winter. As a result of this, the drizzly wet weather outside can soon actually become a problem inside too as dirt and wet leaves can be brought in through dirty footwear. Although it can be difficult to ensure every person on the premises has clean shoes, you can try your hardest to prevent it being traipsed through the building by putting bristly mats at all entrances at both the exterior and interior.

Scary Stilettos

Although many people put their care towards preventing the above, not many people think about how much stilettos can damage a floor. Quality flooring is incredibly hard-wearing, but it can still be scratched by pointy heeled shoes if you’re not careful. When it comes to commercial flooring, you’re likely to find many people wearing stilettos in a restaurant and so we recommend hospitality industries opt for vinyl flooring as it is typically scratch-resistant but can be replaced plank by plank.

Spooky Sweet Stains

With Halloween comes sweets, and with sweets comes sticky residue that is a pain to clean up. It’s very likely that a child will accidentally drop a lolly whilst roaming the floors of your retail store and if this happens to you, you need to know how to clean it up sooner rather than later once it’s damaged your floor. If the flooring is wood, wet a cloth with warm water and a little soap and gently polish off, be careful not to scrub too hard and ruin the surface of the floor. If a sweet or chewing gum has been dropped onto carpet, apply a few ice cubes to the area and it should harden and dry out the gum, so it can be removed easier.

It’s sometimes difficult to avoid damaging your floor, especially when it’s occurred accidentally. If your flooring has become damaged in any way and you’re wondering what to do next, you can get in touch with us here, where we’ll be happy to answer your questions.
