The Unintentional Benefits Of Raised Access Flooring Systems

Many businesses that are looking for an access flooring company do so because they run a business which requires raised flooring to be fit to suit a specific purpose.

There are a lot of benefits to raised access floors, most of which are the key selling points for any business owner or building manager who requires them, from effective cable management to efficient air conditioning systems and allowing greater access to electrical cables to meet ever-changing requirements.

However, whilst these elements are undoubtedly important, there are quite a few unintended benefits that come from the design of raised flooring that are also worth discussing as they can make the flooring solution worth it even if it is not absolutely necessary.

Reduced Noise

Whilst the void space is important for holding wiring, pipes and air conditioning components, it does have the added side effect of acting as a sound dampener. This not only reduces the amount of external noise coming from the floors below but also softens the vibrations and sounds of foot traffic.

This can be absolutely vital in open-plan offices such as customer service centres, where a lot of people are working in the same place and moving around, which generates a significant amount of background noise that must be mitigated to make the office usable.

Easy To Adjust

Because access flooring is tiled by design, it has the advantages of other tiled flooring systems in that it is easy to customise, easy to adjust and easy to replace as and when required.

This is doubly important in certain buildings where you cannot adjust the original flooring to quite the same degree, which is why raised flooring is often used to preserve the floors of listed buildings where the floor is one of the protected features of the building.

As well as this, it allows you to adjust the height of the floor to avoid bumps or blocks, helping with ease of access and comfort.

Modular Durability

On a similar note, an access floor tends to last a lot longer and cost far less to maintain because each section can be maintained, repaired and replaced separately, at a far lower cost overall than taking an entire carpet or flooring set out.

Access flooring is built to last regardless, due to its nature as heavy-duty flooring intended to withstand the weight of entire server farms, but when it does need replacing, it can be done on a case-by-case basis.

This is cheaper each time, but also keeps the rest of the system in much better condition, ensuring that it can last a lot longer.

Easier To Clean

It is not something that is considered when purchasing an access floor, but there will at some point be a need to clean the space underneath, especially if it is used for water pipes or air conditioning.

Because the panels are modular in nature, they are simple to lift up, clean and access the underfloor section to give a thorough deep clean as well.

This not only helps keep everything cleaner and avoid the spread of harmful pathogens but also improves airflow and the effectiveness of systems kept in the void space.
